Let’s do a bit of storytelling here (thx to FlywheelDeFi for your Podcast Episode #88).

The origins of Berachain trace back to their NFT project, Bong Bears, which were hand-drawn by Smokey's co-founder, Papa Bear. As Smokey explained:

“We were just like it'd be kind of funny if we made some NFTs just like for shits and gigs to see what happens, right? Who knows exactly where this will go, but it could be fun to see where it takes us. So we decided to make a hundred NFTs of bear smoking weed. I wish I could say there was some giga brain vision. There really wasn't. We just thought bears smoking weed were funny.”

At the time, Olympus was the hot narrative, so they decided to create the first-ever collection of rebasing NFTs.

“Why don't we employ a familiar rebasing mechanism, let's have these collections expand over time. Instead just having a 10k profile picture drop. Then we made the Bong Bears rebase into the Bond Bears with a slightly larger collection size. Then Boo Bears into the Baby Bears, then Band Bears, and then the BitBears after that. Along the way, I think we found that we were just growing this community base that had interesting ideas and interesting problems to solve.”

After releasing the NFTs, they noticed their community attracting top minds in DeFi. This led them to start exploring protocol design ideas, eventually creating Berachain. As Smokey realized:

“We built a community first, then used that to find our way towards what a good product should look like. The largest product that crypto can offer at times. Is actually that community slash social angle, um, which was interesting to see here at the intersection of NFTs and infrastructure to start.”

And now, what we see here is one of the most active, highly regarded L1 blockchains in the 2024-2025 cycle, Berachain. No one can really predict will Berachain be the next winner, but I can tell for certain that we cant be more bullish on it, right?

3 keywords, or 3 aspects of Berally’s thesis that we have learned from the development of Berachain, are fun, community, and product. That is why we decided to come up with a 690 free mint NFT collection:

• For the FUN, nothing says fun like bears high on stuff. They even made a freaking movie about it. We present to you: Beracid, a limited collection of free mint NFTs tied to Berally in the dumbest way.

• For the COMMUNITY, we hate bots and farmers who come and go. Our job is to deliver each NFT to the most organic, dedicated, and original gangs of Berachain, and we’ll do it at any cost. We want our fellow holders to proudly share and talk about how overdosed their Beracids are.

• For the PRODUCT, the community of Beracid will find way towards what a good product should look like. The product will be developed around the ideas and feedback of Beracid holders, and Beracids will be highly emphasized in our business model and flywheel.

So, are you ready to get overdosed with Berally?
